Good Friday Tennebrae 2026
Details
On Good Friday we gather for a solemn Tenebrae service (“Service of Shadows”) as we meditate on the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. Following the shape provided in the 2019 Book of Common Prayer, this liturgy includes Scripture readings that trace the Passion narrative from Gethsemane to the Cross, interwoven with hymns, silence, and prayer.
The service begins in dim light and unfolds in growing darkness as we hear the Gospel accounts of betrayal, denial, trial, crucifixion, and death. Music and reflective silence deepen our participation in Christ’s Passion. A devotional moment before the Cross invites prayerful contemplation.
The service concludes in silence, without a formal dismissal, as we depart in quiet reflection. All are welcome to enter into this sacred and sobering remembrance of the day Christ gave himself for the life of the world.
